Brad Treliving on filling the void left by Mitch Marner: "We've turned the page... I like our depth at center, throughout the lineup, and the bottom of our lineup"
"We are moving forward. We wish Mitch all the best, but our focus is on our team, not what was. It is about what is now. As I said at the time, you are not just replacing him. We can all break it down however you want, but to me, it is not "replacing 100 points." Someone is going into that spot, right? They are going to have production and all of the rest of it."
"I like the depth of our center ice - not just the four guys down the middle, but we have lots of guys with the option to play into the middle. I like the depth throughout the lineup. I like the bottom of our lineup. I think we have increased the depth there. We have lost a player who touched a lot of parts of the game, so the guys we have brought in can kill penalties and handle some different jobs."
Training camp roster planning includes reported interest in Dillon Dube, progress on an Anthony Stolarz extension, and goaltending tandem considerations. Max Domi is day-to-day with a lower-body injury and will not fully participate in the first practice. The team has moved on from Mitch Marner's departure and is focused on rounding out the roster rather than replacing 100 points. New additions are expected to fill roles, kill penalties, and handle various jobs. Depth at center and throughout the lineup, including the bottom six, has increased. Chemistry and lineup fits will be evaluated during camp, with a veteran, win-now roster limiting younger-player opportunities.
