B.C. billionaire hosts job fair in Toronto amid bid for Hudson's Bay leases | CBC News

Ruby Liu is pursuing the acquisition of up to 28 Hudson's Bay leases in Canada, with three already transferred to her. Despite hosting a job fair to recruit staff for these properties, the remaining leases face opposition from landlords due to Liu's lack of a detailed business plan. A court hearing has been adjourned after a creditor sought to terminate Liu's purchase agreement, while an Ontario judge urged her to secure legal representation. Optimism exists about the future store openings.
Ruby Liu signed deals with Hudson's Bay in May to buy up to 28 leases across Canada belonging to the defunct retailer and its sister banner Saks.
If she pulls this off, she will be a Canadian hero,' said Sandi Kveton, who worked at Hudson's Bay for 27 years.
An Ontario judge adjourned a court hearing last Tuesday initiated by a creditor of Hudson's Bay seeking to terminate Liu's purchase agreement.
Liu expressed optimism about the outcome of the hearing, stating through her CEO and translator, Linda Qin, 'She's very confident that we are going to get the stores.'
