"Many executives told ESPN, anonymously, that they felt the Blue Jays would do something of that ilk - and a few even mentioned them as the favourites to land Cease. Now that the Blue Jays have made those executives look like Nostradamus's on the pitching side, maybe they can help them go 2-for-2 with their takes on the hitting side."
"The Blue Jays had offers in on both Shohei Ohtani and Juan Soto that, at the very least, matched what they got from the Dodgers and Mets respectively. And after they extended home grown star Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to a record $500 million contract in April, would it really surprise anyone if they were the highest bidder for Tucker? Sometimes money isn't enough though and Tucker would have to actually want to play for the Blue Jays."
"But if he wants to go to a team that is clearly pushing all of it's chips onto the table in an attempt to win a World Series, than he needs to look no further than the Blue Jays. While the contract with Cease will eat into their overall payroll, it would be foolish to think that was going to be the only big splash Toronto would atte"
The Toronto Blue Jays signed Dylan Cease to a multi-year contract. Several MLB executives anonymously predicted the Blue Jays would pursue high-profile pitchers and listed them among favorites for Cease. Executives placed the Blue Jays third-most likely to sign Kyle Tucker in a poll about the market's top free agent. Six executives thought Tucker would exceed $400 million; ten disagreed. Predictions favored the Yankees, Dodgers and Blue Jays as Tucker destinations. The Blue Jays previously made offers for Shohei Ohtani and Juan Soto and extended Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to $500 million. The Cease deal reduces payroll flexibility but further major signings remain possible.
