Algonquin Park remains ID'd as Cleveland man missing since 1973 | CBC News
"I'm honoured, I'm humbled, I'm grateful," said Singer's younger sister Merry in an OPP news release."
"He was identified and we were able to put him to rest, and put ourselves to rest."
Ontario Provincial Police used investigative genetic genealogy to identify remains found near Hardwood Lake Trail in Algonquin Park in April 1980 as Eric Singer, who was last seen at his parents' house in October 1973. Initial recovery included camping gear, clothing and additional remains, and investigators estimated the decedent was a white man around 20 and that death occurred within two years of discovery; foul play was not suspected. A jawbone was found in 1995 and a forensic facial reconstruction was released in 2017. Beginning in 2019, DNA matching to public databases and family-tree building led to the recent identification and family closure.
