Why Won't Dexter Die?
Briefly

Dexter's sixth season in 2011 marked a turn in critical reception, with concerns that success might lead to decline. Critics lamented the portrayal of the titular character, noting the shift from horror to farce in the final seasons. The original series finale left audiences frustrated with its plot choices, particularly Dexter's unexpected fate. Despite critical backlash, the series' popularity led to a revival, Dexter: New Blood, which was seen as a continuation of the show’s strong brand, even as it faced scrutiny.
With stellar ratings, and a renewal for two more seasons, Dexter has me worried. The better Dexter gets the worse Dexter may become.
The whole mess of the series' final four seasons was that the show refused to view the character as anything other than a much-needed dark avenger.
And then he becomes a lumberjack immediately entered the TV critic lexicon as an example of a terrible way to end a TV show.
At no point does Dexter: New Blood feel like anything but the latest entry in a brand play.
