"It's a New Year, a time when many series debut, their makers desperate to attract viewers looking for something amazing to watch after a fortnight of Christmas specials. One which should leap out from the schedules is this six-part drama, loosely adapted from Andy West's memoir The Life Inside. Rising star Josh Finan - he had an eye-catching, Bafta-nominated role in The Responder as Marco, a struggling single father resorting to crime - heads the cast. This time, however, he's playing someone on the opposite side of the law; Dan is a philosopher who's about to teach a class in a men's prison."
"He does, however, come from a difficult background - his father, brother and uncle have all been behind bars. Dan has bucked the trend, but spending time with inmates brings on a personal crisis. "The series looks at the long shadow cast over the lives of those impacted by the prison system," says Finan. "I don't think I've seen a drama that looks just as much at what goes on for those outside of the prison walls as well as prisoners inside them.""
