United has purchased 50 of the A321XLR jets to replace its aging Boeing 757 planes, which average about 24 years old, enhancing its ability to serve thinner routes.
The A321XLR, with a 5,400-mile range, is considered a long-haul workhorse, allowing United to connect lower-demand markets efficiently compared to the older 757 jets.
