Tony Adams was a Welsh actor born in Anglesey in 1940 who trained at the Italia Conti theatre school. He made his name as Dr Neville Bywaters in the 1970s ITV soap General Hospital and appeared in Doctor Who's The Green Death. He joined Crossroads in 1978 as accountant Adam Chance, remaining until the show ended in 1988 after more than 4,500 episodes and audiences above 15 million, and returned for the 2001 revival. He continued on stage, notably as Grandpa Potts in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and had a 2023 cameo in Nolly. He died in Brighton with his wife Christine at his side, and colleagues paid tribute to his warmth and versatility.
