Laura Dave logged onto a Zoom call with Reese Witherspoon during the pandemic to discuss adapting her No. 1 New York Times bestseller The Last Thing He Told Me for television. The first season became one of Apple TV+'s most-watched series, starring Jennifer Garner, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, and Angourie Rice. Season 2, based on Dave's sequel The First Time I Saw Him, premieres Feb. 20 and introduces Judy Greer and Rita Wilson while following Hannah and Bailey to France when Owen reemerges. Garner's portrayal influenced Dave's conception of the character and specific scenes. Dave is also adapting another novel and writing a new book.
