A sci-fi adventure follows unlikely friends in a retiree-only town who band together to defend themselves and argue that aging should not mean cultural irrelevance. The setting resembles a Florida retirement community but is placed in the New Mexico desert, with mid-century homes, shops, and abundant leisure facilities. A widower, an aeronautical engineer, is forced to move there after investing in a new home, and his grief makes him hostile toward neighbors and toward his daughter. Other residents include a too-friendly man and a sharp, defensive presence, and the group’s conflict pushes the story beyond a comfortable cul-de-sac into a more provocative direction. The narrative frames two possible paths for the generation and examines obligations to those who come after.
"Sam Cooper (Alfred Molina) is determined not to. A retired aeronautical engineer and recent widower after his wife, Lily (Jane Kaczmarek), died of a stroke, Sam's forced to move into the Boroughs because the couple sunk their money into a new home there. His grief has made him an asshole, and Molina is an exceptional grump, all hunched posture and scowling exasperation. Sam is pushing away his daughter, Claire (Jena Malone), who just wants her father to make her feel better about the loss of her mother, and he's irritated at everything his neighbors do."
