'The Golden Bachelor' praises 'energetic and sophisticated' women vying for his heart this season
"I had butterflies. I was nervous. I was frazzled, too. And then, you know, as the women were coming up, we're going, hey, I'm nervous. You're nervous, too, but then there's a certain calmness of it."
"They wanted to see it in my eyes, how sincere I was. I was sincere. It mattered to me and it mattered to them. So, we just had the frank discussions and I asked for forgiveness and give me a chance and let me earn it back and I think I did."
"They're just tremendous. They're so energetic and sophisticated and put together, right, they're great."
Mel Owens is a former NFL player, current lawyer and divorced father of two who begins The Golden Bachelor seeking a second chance at love. He experienced pre-show nerves as the contestants arrived but described a calming connection with the women. He publicly apologized for earlier insensitive comments about preferring younger contestants and addressed the issue with the women on the first night, asking for forgiveness and to earn back trust. Owens praised the 23 contestants, aged 58–77, calling them energetic, sophisticated and put together, and emphasized that love can be found at any age.
