Stephen Colbert's next move after CBS? Writing a Lord of the Rings film
"... The thing I found myself reading over and over again were the six chapters early on in The Fellowship that y'all never developed into the first movie back in the day."
"It's basically the chapter 'Three Is Company' through 'Fog on the Barrow-Downs.' And I thought, 'Oh, wait, maybe that could be its own story that could fit into the larger story."
Stephen Colbert and Peter Jackson announced a new film titled The Lord Of The Rings: Shadow Of The Past. Colbert, a longtime LOTR fan, will co-write the film after his tenure on The Late Show. The project aims to adapt early chapters of The Fellowship of the Ring that were not included in the original trilogy. Colbert's pitch focuses on creating a narrative that remains faithful to both the books and the films, specifically chapters 'Three Is Company' through 'Fog on the Barrow-Downs.'
