"So does that mean, Mom, you can take us to school sometimes in the morning on Friday?"
"You don't have to land. Just float."
"There was so much joy in our house, and we needed that joy. When I came back from leave, I talked about fighting for my joy. This is what it looks like."
Sheinelle Jones was named permanent co-host of TODAY's fourth hour alongside Jenna Bush Hager. Her 16-year-old son, Kayin, noticed Friday episodes are typically pre-taped and asked if she could take the children to school on those mornings. The new role felt surreal, accompanied by a co-worker's reassurance: "You don't have to land. Just float." Jones returned to work in September after bereavement following the May death of her husband, Uche Ojeh, from brain cancer at 45 after 17 years of marriage. The children were the first to learn about the role, and their joy brought much-needed happiness.
