"She's such an iconic character, who means so much to so many - and I am giving everything I've got."
"They're massive shoes to fill, following in the steps of Angelina and Alicia with their powerhouse performances, but with Phoebe at the helm, we (and Lara) are all in very safe hands. I can't wait for you all to see what we have cooking."
"It's not very often you get to make a show of this scale with a character you grew up loving. Everyone on board is wildly passionate about Lara and are all as outrageous, brave, and hilarious as she is."
Sophie Turner has been cast as Lara Croft in a new live-action Tomb Raider television series created, written, executive produced, and co-showrun by Phoebe Waller-Bridge. The series adapts the 1996 video game and centers on the British adventurer and archaeologist Lara Croft, a role previously portrayed by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander. Jonathan Van Tulleken will direct episodes, and filming is scheduled to begin in January 2026 as the first series from Waller-Bridge's Prime Video deal. Turner described the character as iconic and pledged full commitment to the role, while Waller-Bridge called Turner formidable and praised the team's passion; fans reacted enthusiastically, including notable sapphic celebrations.
