Olympic Medalist Noah Lyles on His Anime-Themed Adidas Collab
""When you watch anime, you understand what a main character is," Lyles tells me. "The way I view my career, my world, my life, is as a main character. The hardships, the fun times, the adventures, taking the steps forward that nobody else would take. That's all inspiration to say, 'I know this is how people want it to be, but that's not how it has to be.'""
"Here, anime streaming service Crunchyroll has set up shop, literally, showing off a new capsule collection of casual wear in collaboration with Lyles and Adidas. The collection went live on Crunchyroll's digital store on September 18 with a limited edition hoodie, two t-shirts, and a hat. The pieces sport original artwork of Noah Lyles as his own anime leading man, a main character at the brink of breaking the sound barrier with his gift of speed."
Noah Lyles grew up obsessed with Dragon Ball Z, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and One Piece, drawing inspiration from stories of underdogs surpassing their limits. He is a track and field World champion and Olympic gold medalist, and the third-fastest ever at 200m. He frames his career and life as a main character, using hardships and adventures as motivation to take unconventional steps. At New York Comic Con, Crunchyroll and Adidas released a capsule collection featuring Lyles, with a limited hoodie, two t-shirts, and a hat bearing original anime artwork of Lyles as a high-speed protagonist. At the Paris Games he referenced anime by posing like Luffy, performing Jujutsu Kaisen gestures, and showing Yu-Gi-Oh cards.
