"I'm uncharacteristically rather lost for words right now! Of course it's daunting to be following in the footsteps of Prue Leith and Mary Berry before her, great dames both, but I'm also bubbling with excitement,"
"The Great British Bake Off is more than a television programme, it's a National Treasure - and it's a huge honour to be entrusted with it. I'm just thrilled to be joining the team and all the new bakers to come, I wish the marvellous Prue all the best, and am giddily grateful for the opportunity!"
"I was so hoping it would be Nigella! Brilliant choice."
Nigella Lawson will join The Great British Bake Off as a judge for series 17, replacing Prue Leith. Lawson will sit alongside Paul Hollywood and appear with hosts Noel Fielding and Alison Hammond in the tent. Prue Leith is leaving the show, citing being "86 for goodness sake!" and a desire to "spend summers enjoying my garden." Lawson described the programme as "a National Treasure" and said joining felt like a huge honour. Lawson rose to fame in the late 1990s and early 2000s with cookbooks such as How to Eat and TV series beginning with Nigella Bites, and her warm presenting style is expected to suit the show.
