Netflix Announces A Clue Competition Series Based On The Iconic Board Game
"In its announcement, Netflix said contestants will play roles like Colonel Mustard, Miss Scarlett, and Professor Plum as they face "physical and mental challenges." Like the board game, the goal of the reality competition series is to collect clues and try to figure out who is behind a crime."
""Like so many families and friends over the years, we've gathered around the table trying to figure out who did it--making Clue a source of nostalgia that everyone shares," Netflix unscripted boss Jeff Gaspin said. "We're delivering a fresh, imaginative whodunit competition that will invite today's audiences into that iconic world.""
"This is not the first adaptation of the board game, as writer John Landis wrote the 1985 movie Clue starring Tim Curry, Christopher Lloyd, Michael McKean, Martin Mull, Lesley Ann Warren, Madeline Kahn, and Eileen Brennan. The film only made $14 million at the box office but found more success on home video. The film had three different endings, and different theaters got different endings; the home video release included all three."
Netflix will produce an unscripted competition series based on Hasbro's Clue. Contestants will assume roles such as Colonel Mustard, Miss Scarlett, and Professor Plum and face physical and mental challenges to collect clues and identify who committed a crime. No release date has been announced. Clue originated in the 1940s as Cluedo and has sold more than 150 million copies worldwide, spawning numerous spin-offs. The property has appeared in films and video games, including a 1985 film written by John Landis that starred Tim Curry and others; that film grossed about $14 million theatrically and later found greater success on home video.
