My Favorite Room: Lisa McRee curates and creates history in her home
"It's ephemera, right? It's just paper, but it means a lot. It gives me some sort of special joy. Although these treasures are invaluable, they're not locked in a display case, but instead are out in the open for all to enjoy."
"The room is a reflection of McRee herself - a blend of family, career and history. Placed among the many pictures of McRee with her husband, producer Don Granger, and their two children are photographs of her with the likes of President Reagan and President Clinton."
"I come in here and I just grab stuff. Here's the thing - if you never put anything away, it's never hard to find anything."
Lisa McRee, an award-winning television journalist and Spectrum News 1 anchor, has transformed her den into a personal 'memory museum' within her 6,000-square-foot Greek Revival home in Hancock Park. The room showcases an extraordinary collection of items including an original script from Billy Wilder's 'Some Like It Hot,' five Emmy Awards, signed letters from John Hancock and President Eisenhower, and photographs with Presidents Reagan and Clinton. Rather than storing these valuable items in display cases, McRee keeps them accessible throughout the room alongside family photographs with her husband and children. She intentionally avoids putting items away, making everything easy to find and enjoy.
