Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan's true-crime anthology Monster will center its fourth season on Lizzie Borden. The season will fictionalize the 1892 axe killings of Borden's father and stepmother in Fall River, Massachusetts; Borden was tried and acquitted and later lived ostracized until her death at 66 from pneumonia. The case challenged gender norms and drew extensive media attention, inspiring rhymes, plays, books, films and television. Previous screen portrayals include the 2014 Lifetime film Lizzie Borden Took an Ax and the 2018 film Lizzie. Deadline reported in July 2025 that Ella Beatty will play Lizzie, with Rebecca Hall and Vicky Krieps co-starring.
