Hudson Williams posted a selfie smoking with Jordan Firstman on his Instagram Story on December 16, tagging Firstman and adding a red heart emoji. Firstman reportedly reposted the picture before deactivating his account. Firstman had previously said Heated Rivalry does not accurately depict how gay people have sex and called the series "two straight hockey players pretending to be gay and fucking," suggesting Williams and Connor Storrie should come out if they are gay. Firstman later affirmed his "love" for Heated Rivalry and apologized in an Instagram Story.
