Kumail Nanjiani described an absurd rumor claiming he was having an affair with Michelle Obama and said the rumor made him amused and excited. A mutual friend reportedly pulled his wife, Emily Gordon, aside to relay the rumor, and Gordon was not upset. Nanjiani said multiple people mentioned the rumor to him and revealed that he has never met Michelle Obama. Caleb Hearon compared the rumor to persistent speculation about Barack Obama and Jennifer Aniston. Nanjiani joked that Michelle Obama was "slumming it."
