Jerry Adler died at 96, passing peacefully in his sleep. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Adler spent decades working on Broadway as a stage manager, producer and director, including work on the original production of My Fair Lady. He left Broadway in the 1980s and moved to California to work in television, including the soap opera Santa Barbara. Adler began onscreen acting later in life, appearing in 1990s series and films such as Brooklyn Bridge, Alright Already, Hudson Street and Manhattan Murder Mystery. A casting director encouraged him to audition for The Public Eye, which led to more film roles. Adler played Hesh Rabkin on The Sopranos for six seasons after an initial one-shot cameo.
"passed peacefully in his sleep," a representative for the family told Fox News Digital.
"I was really getting into the twilight of a mediocre career," he told The New York Times in 1992.
"When David was going to do the pilot for 'The Sopranos' he called and asked me if I would do a cameo of Hesh. It was just supposed to be a one-shot," he told Forward in 2015. "But when they picked up the show they liked the character, and I would come on every fourth week."
