Inside the Great "Saturday Night Live" Cast Shakeup
Briefly

Saturday Night Live entered the 2024-2025 TV season atmosphere after a landmark 50th year and an upcoming Oct. 11 milestone, with ringers like Dana Carvey, Mike Myers, Maya Rudolph and Andy Samberg contributing recurring political impressions alongside a 17-member cast. The program now faces a larger exodus before Season 50 begins Oct. 4, with four cast members confirmed to leave and more possible departures. Heidi Gardner departed after eight seasons citing sketch fatigue. Emil Wakim, Devon Walker and Michael Longfellow left after one to three seasons, with Wakim and Longfellow indicating disappointing notification calls. Please Don't Destroy is breaking up with varied outcomes for its members, and writers Rosebud Baker and Celeste Yim are also departing.
Though a trio of cast members announced departures prior to Season 50, the past week has seen a larger exodus, with four cast members already confirmed to leave and the possibility of more following them out the door; the season doesn't actually start up until Oct. 4. Among those exiting, Heidi Gardner probably made that decision herself;
Emil Wakim (gone after one season), Devon Walker (three seasons), and Michael Longfellow (also three) sounded less voluntary. Wakim and Longfellow specifically alluded to getting a disappointing call informing them of the decision. Video-making and writing trio Please Don't Destroy is also breaking up, though not all are leaving; Ben Marshall will presumably appear more often as one of the five newly announced cast members, Martin Herlihy remains on as a writer, and John Higgins is leaving altogether.
