Gregg Wallace launches legal claim against BBC over dismissal
"A late autism diagnosis has helped me understand how I communicate and how I'm perceived. I'm still learning. Banijay have given me great support, and I thank them. But in the end, the BBC left me exposed to trial by media and the damage it leaves in its wake."
"We have not been formally notified of any legal proceedings so at this stage we are unable to comment."
Gregg Wallace filed a data protection claim in the high court against the BBC and BBC Studios seeking disclosure of confidential documents related to his July dismissal from MasterChef. An independent Lewis Silkin report substantiated 45 allegations against Wallace, including inappropriate sexual language and one incident of unwelcome physical contact. Banijay UK and the BBC concluded that Wallace's return to MasterChef was untenable. Lewis Silkin noted Wallace was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder during its investigation and said findings should be viewed in the context of his neurodiversity. Wallace apologised for any distress and indicated he was considering further legal action, including a disability claim.
