A Coronation Street–Emmerdale crossover special staged a violent multi-car crash that left vicar Billy Mayhew dead. Billy, played by Daniel Brocklebank since 2014, was driving a minivan of residents when he swerved to avoid Carla Connor and the vehicle toppled. Passengers escaped but Billy remained trapped until Theo, Todd's abusive ex, strapped him back into his seat and let the minibus explode, killing him. The death ends Brocklebank's 11-year tenure. Brocklebank posted a video thanking fans, saying he "can't believe" he was recording his goodbyes and that he loved every minute of being Billy.
