"These days, movies and television shows based on video games are all the rage. But God of War on Prime Video will take "rage" quite literally. A new live-action series based on the PlayStation franchise God of War is coming soon to Prime Video. Not only is the show in development from acclaimed TV auteur Ronald D. Moore (responsible for hits like Battlestar Galactica, Outlander, and For All Mankind), it will star Ryan Hurst in the lead role of Kratos."
"God of War is a video game series inspired by Greek and Norse mythology. Created by David Jaffe and developed by Sony's Santa Monica Studios, the series has been exclusive to the PlayStation brand. The first game was released for the PlayStation 2 in 2005, to critical and commercial acclaim. It originally put players in control of Kratos, a Spartan warrior who serves the Olympians. After Ares tricks him into killing his own family, Kratos swears vengeance against his former boss."
Prime Video is developing a live-action series adapting the 2018 God of War game. Ronald D. Moore is developing the show and Ryan Hurst will star as Kratos. The adaptation will follow the 2018 game's continuation of the original trilogy, which shifts Kratos from Greek to Norse mythology. The 2018 game is set 150 years after God of War III and follows Kratos and his son Atreus as they journey in Midgard to spread the ashes of Laufey, Kratos' second wife and Atreus' mother. The original series began in 2005 on PlayStation 2 and chronicles Kratos' vengeance against Ares and the Greek pantheon.
