Russell T Davies returns as showrunner, writer and executive producer for a five-part Doctor Who limited series titled The War Between the Land and the Sea. The series follows Barclay, a low-level UNIT staff member played by Russell Tovey, who becomes humanity's ambassador when Salt, a blue-skinned human-sea creature hybrid played by Gugu Mbatha-Raw, emerges from the Thames Tank. UNIT, led by Kate Lethbridge-Stewart (Jemma Redgrave), fights for control as nations and species confront the possibility of destruction. The story centers on alliance, conflict between species, and the emotional connections that drive the characters. The main Doctor Who series will go on hiatus after its May 2025 finale.
