""An amateur magician gets in way over his head with a deadly stunt in a local mall. A washed-up sitcom actor takes revenge on the coyote who killed his dog. Two young runaways decide to part ways, but not before embarking on one last big adventure.""
""This collection takes place in the spaces men build for themselves when the world moves on without asking their permission," McBride told The Hollywood Reporter. "These stories aren't here to fix men. They're here to watch them spiral out of control, eat shit, get back up, and occasionally do something accidentally decent.""
Danny McBride has spent more than twenty years portraying boorish, toxic forms of masculinity on screen and creating shows that dissect those behaviors, including Eastbound & Down, Vice Principals, and The Righteous Gemstones. Random House will publish Thrilling Tales of Modern Men on June 23, a collection of stories set in the spaces men build when the world moves on without asking permission. Story premises include an amateur magician in a deadly mall stunt, a washed-up sitcom actor avenging his dog’s death, and two runaways taking a final adventure. McBride wrote the pieces during downtime between seasons of The Righteous Gemstones and centers on men spiraling, failing, and occasionally acting decently.
