Eric Dane died at age 53 less than a year after publicly announcing his diagnosis with ALS. Celebrities and colleagues expressed grief and admiration for his on-screen charisma and advocacy during his illness. Dane was best known as Dr. Mark Sloan on Grey's Anatomy and as Cal Jacobs on HBO's Euphoria. Colleagues recalled his sharp humor, affectionate personality, and memorable hugs. HBO Max and Euphoria creator Sam Levinson praised his talent and friendship. Dane was preparing to publish his memoir at the time of his death.
