Bay Area native stars in NBC's new mockumentary
"Gus Heagerty has always looked for ways to make people laugh. The self-described "class clown" was kicked out of a classroom or two for his antics during his childhood in Mill Valley."
"In high school. I was in a musical at Mill Valley Middle School. I'm not a singer at all, but it gave me my first dose of being on stage, and it was really fun. Around the same time, I was in the very first show that was ever at the Throckmorton Theatre. Throckmorton Theatre founder Lucy Mercer's daughter, Remy, is one of my very close friends, and we were great friends then. We did a little variety show at the Throckmorton Theatre. That connected the dots on some very natural performative things that were already happening in my house. I was like, "Oh, I just need an audience.""
""The show's world is genius," he said. "It's competitive cheerleading set in the South. I was obsessed with Netflix's 'Cheer' when that came out. I love the rigor and competitive spirit around dance and cheer. I found it fascinating. The people who make the show are so like-minded and fun. It's been great.""
Gus Heagerty grew up in Mill Valley as a playful, attention-seeking performer known as a "class clown." He discovered stage work in middle and high school musicals and performed in early shows at the Throckmorton Theatre, which sparked a lasting appetite for audiences. Heagerty now works in stand-up comedy, online videos and acting. He plays Seph Marigold on NBC's Stumble, a mockumentary about a fired competitive cheer coach seeking redemption. Heagerty expresses fascination with the rigor and competitive spirit of cheerleading and has relocated to New York while continuing his entertainment career.
