Apple postpones Jessica Chastain series about domestic extremism
"After careful consideration, we have made the decision to postpone The Savant, a spokesperson said in a statement. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to releasing the series at a future date."
"Snipers, bombings, ambushes, we're on the verge of serious violence. This guy isn't just planning violence, he's out to make a statement innocent Americans are going to die."
"I hate that this show is relevant, Chastain said in an interview with the Radio Times. I hate it. I hate that there are mass acts of violence. But maybe through this conversation and through unearthing this darkness in society, then we're gonna work together to fix it."
Apple TV+ postponed the release of The Savant, originally scheduled for 26 September, saying the decision followed careful consideration and promising a future release date. The series stars Jessica Chastain as an operative who infiltrates online hate groups to stop violence and was loosely inspired by a 2019 Cosmopolitan account of an investigator known as the Savant. Trailer dialogue warns of snipers, bombings and coordinated mass attacks and cites 893 extremist attacks in the US between 1994 and 2020. The postponement comes after the killing of rightwing commentator Charlie Kirk, for which prosecutors charged Tyler Robinson.
