Taylor Fritz defeated Karen Khachanov in the Wimbledon quarterfinals to reach his first semifinal, becoming the first American man to do so since 2018. Fritz has excelled on grass with a 13-1 record this season, capturing titles at Stuttgart and Eastbourne, marking the most grass wins for an American man since 1990. He joins a select group of American men with multiple major semifinal appearances but is notably the first active American man to reach non-hardcourt semifinal stages. Previous American male finalists at Wimbledon were last seen in 2009.
Taylor Fritz defeated No. 17 seed Karen Khachanov 6-3, 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (4) to advance to his first Wimbledon semifinal Tuesday, becoming the first American man to reach that stage of the grass-court Slam since John Isner in 2018.
Since the calendar flipped to the grass-court season, Fritz has a 13-1 record on the surface, including two titles at Stuttgart and Eastbourne, which is the most grass wins on the ATP Tour.
Fritz is the first active American male to reach the semifinals or better at a non-hardcourt major, joining Frances Tiafoe and Ben Shelton as the only American men with multiple major semifinal appearances.
The last Wimbledon to feature two American men in the semifinals was 2000, and the U.S. hasn't had a male Wimbledon finalist since Andy Roddick in 2009.
