YouTube opens 'second chance' program to creators banned for misinformation
"repeated violations of COVID-19 and elections integrity policies that are no longer in effect."
"YouTube continues to enable a diversity of perspectives and believes creators should be able to openly debate political ideas on the platform,"
"a subset of creators"
"channels terminated for policies that have been deprecated."
YouTube is piloting a program to allow some creators who were banned for COVID-19 and election misinformation to make new channels. The opportunity applies to creators removed for "repeated violations of COVID-19 and elections integrity policies that are no longer in effect." The company eased some COVID misinformation rules in 2023 and relaxed broader moderation to reflect new platform discussion. YouTube previously removed vaccine misinformation and issued strikes after January 6, and it temporarily suspended uploads by President Trump before lifting restrictions. A $24.5 million settlement with Trump was announced, and the pilot will roll out to eligible creators over the next several weeks.
