American Airlines has introduced a new policy allowing passengers to earn AAdvantage miles and Loyalty Points from paid upgrades, enhancing loyalty rewards and upgrade options.
The recent change means that AAdvantage members can earn a base of 5 miles and Loyalty Points per dollar spent on upgrades, mirroring the accrual on standard tickets.
AAdvantage elite status members will earn additional bonus miles on their upgrades, with rates ranging from 7 to 11 times the base rate, based on their elite status level.
Looking ahead, American Airlines plans to provide further updates on AAdvantage enhancements, including the ability to upgrade on more Oneworld partner airlines.
