Microsoft is updating the Windows 11 battery icon to feature three colors: green for charging, yellow for low battery (below 20%), and red for critically low levels. This improvement, part of the latest Insider Preview Build, aims to help users quickly assess battery status at a glance. Additional enhancements include simplified overlays and the option to display the battery's percentage next to the icon. These changes respond to long-standing demands from users for a more informative battery indicator, aiding in better power management.
The new colored battery icons will appear on the taskbar's system tray, in the quick settings flyout, and in general Windows Settings, with future updates planned.
Microsoft says this is a 'highly requested feature by Insiders and customers' and it should be a welcome upgrade over the battery icon Windows currently uses.
