Vimeo is laying off staff globally after its $1.38 billion sale to Bending Spoons
"Milan-based Bending Spoons owns a collection of software companies, including Evernote, Meetup, and WeTransfer. The company has leaned heavily into M&A to grow, closing its purchase of Vimeo in November and announcing in October that it would buy AOL for $1.5 billion. It raised $4 billion in debt financing in 2025 to support its AOL acquisition and future M&A activity."
"The job cuts arrived a few months after the European tech company bought Vimeo for around $1.38 billion in November. A spokesperson for Bending Spoons declined to confirm the scale of this week's layoffs. It's Vimeo's second round of layoffs since September, when the company cut 10% of its full-time workforce in an "effort to ensure focus and efficiency," the company wrote in an SEC filing at the time."
Vimeo is trimming staff globally under the ownership of Milan-based Bending Spoons. The layoffs follow Bending Spoons' roughly $1.38 billion acquisition of Vimeo in November. Company representatives declined to confirm the scope of the cuts. Vimeo enacted a prior reduction of 10% of its full-time workforce in September to improve focus and efficiency. Bending Spoons has pursued aggressive M&A, owning products such as Evernote, Meetup, and WeTransfer, announcing a $1.5 billion AOL deal and raising $4 billion in debt financing in 2025. Bending Spoons has previously reduced headcount after acquisitions, including at WeTransfer. Vimeo has expanded into webinars and event software beyond hosting.
