There's a quiet PC boom happening - thanks to Windows 10 and the tariffs

According to Gartner's recent report, PC shipments saw a significant rise of 12.6% in the first quarter of 2025, totaling over 16 million units. Factors such as the uncertainties of Trump's tariff policies prompted manufacturers to bolster their inventory, while the impending end of Windows 10 support coerced many users into purchasing new systems that can run Windows 11. Even with the surge, end-user demand remains cautious, highlighting a fragile market conditions. All major PC vendors in the US reported growth, led by HP's substantial market presence.
"In the US, the PC market experienced a surge in shipments as vendors increased inventory in anticipation of tariff announcements, resulting in 12.6% year-over-year growth," Gartner research principal Rishi Padhi said.
"Despite this increase and the subsequent strong topline growth, underlying end-user demand remained cautious, even with the added boost from enterprises upgrading PCs for Windows 11."
