SpaceX has acquired xAI, the developer of the Grok chatbot, to integrate artificial intelligence with space and communications capabilities. The acquisition unites the private aerospace company with an AI developer ahead of a planned stock listing later this year. A memo published on X described the acquisition as creating "the most ambitious, vertically integrated innovation engine on (and off) Earth" and emphasized combining AI, rockets, space-based internet, direct-to-mobile communications, and a real-time information platform to accelerate innovation. The combined group could be valued near $1.25 trillion. SpaceX generated about $15.5bn in revenues last year.
