One of the significant benefits of AWS designing its own chips, including Graviton, is the reduction of data center operating expenses. By leveraging Arm-based architectures, AWS can provide a more cost-effective and energy-efficient alternative compared to traditional x86-based chips from Intel or AMD, which may contribute to a more sustainable business model going forward.
Looking towards the future, Kulkarni stated, "We have a lot of engagement going on in custom silicon, and that's an area that we will continue to invest in at a very aggressive pace going forward." This indicates AWS's commitment to enhance its technology infrastructure and maintain a competitive edge by advancing its custom silicon capabilities.
