Storm Eowyn has caused significant disruptions to broadband and mobile services across Ireland, leaving over 100,000 individuals without connectivity. Eir reported approximately 20,000 homes without broadband and tens of thousands more affected by mobile coverage issues. Key regions impacted include Galway, Mayo, and Donegal. National Broadband Ireland noted over 15,000 premises remain offline due to power outages and fibre breaks. While major mobile operators have restored service to hundreds of thousands, the storm's damages reveal vulnerabilities in both fixed and mobile communication infrastructure, following the harshest weather event in decades.
"There will also be individual faults that will take additional time to address," a spokesperson said.
"Over 250,000 homes and more than 830 mobile sites now have restored service," said the Eir spokesperson of its national repairs effort.
"This was the most severe weather event ever recorded for Ireland."
National Broadband Ireland reports that there are still 15,057 premises offline "due to a combination of power outages and fibre breaks."
