Microsoft to join CISPE following legal spat over licensing
Briefly

Microsoft has officially become a member of the Cloud Infrastructure Services Providers of Europe (CISPE), following negotiations related to previously alleged anti-competitive practices. While the board voted in favor of Microsoft's membership, AWS opposed the decision. Microsoft will participate as a non-voting member, which mitigates concerns among smaller members regarding influence over policies. Microsoft’s entry is seen as a positive step towards collaborative efforts in areas like the Cloud Switching Framework, aiming to improve compliance with the EU's Data Act.
"There are lots of areas where we are very much in alignment so it is useful to have Microsoft participate, adding: This is a step towards a greater CISPE."
"AWS opposed Microsoft joining but it was outvoted by the board," he confirmed. The Register asked AWS to comment but it declined.
"We are grateful to the CISPE membership for accepting our application as a non-voting adherent member and will continue to focus on building a constructive partnership that supports European cloud providers."
