Microsoft 365 is losing its free VPN feature
Briefly

Microsoft plans to remove the VPN feature from its Microsoft 365 subscription on February 28, citing low usage and limited effectiveness. Initially intended as a privacy feature, the VPN faced criticism due to its 50GB monthly data limit and inability to bypass geo-restrictions. Although the VPN will be discontinued, Microsoft 365 subscribers can still access identity theft and credit monitoring services. This removal follows a recent price increase for Microsoft 365 subscriptions, which now include Office AI features after a 12-year pricing freeze.
The VPN feature in Microsoft 365 will be removed at the end of February due to low usage and limited functionality.
Microsoft states it will invest in new areas rather than maintain the VPN feature, aligning better with customer needs.
Despite the removal of the VPN, Microsoft 365 subscribers will still have access to identity theft and credit monitoring in the US.
The VPN’s limited data cap and automatic connectivity to local regions hindered its widespread usage.
