Micron cuts consumer memory Crucial to chase AI riches
"The AI-driven growth in the data center has led to a surge in demand for memory and storage. Micron has made the difficult decision to exit the Crucial consumer business in order to improve supply and support for our larger, strategic customers in faster-growing segments,"
"We would like to thank our millions of customers, hundreds of partners and all of the Micron team members who have supported the Crucial journey for the last 29 years,"
Micron is abandoning the Crucial consumer memory and storage product line to reallocate production capacity toward enterprise-focused memory used in AI and data-center servers. Crucial products will continue shipping through the end of February 2026, with warranty service and support available afterward. Micron will continue supplying enterprise memory products to commercial channel customers. DRAM and NAND prices have surged due to intense AI server demand as manufacturers prioritize advanced process capacity for high-end server DRAM and HBM, leaving fewer parts for consumer chips and reducing consumer memory options amid a global shortage.
