Lenovo has achieved major supercomputer contracts in Europe, deploying an Intel-based system for Imperial College London and an AMD-built system for the European Institute of Oncology. The HX2 system at Imperial College features 192 nodes with advanced processors and a robust storage setup intended to enhance research capabilities. The project reflects Lenovo's strategy to compete against established supercomputing hardware while fostering academic research in HPC and AI, aided by significant investment from the college.
The Imperial investment of £10 million ($13.5 million) for HX2 has ensured that we can provide, in collaboration with Intel and Lenovo, a high-quality, future-proof compute platform for our researchers.
Lenovo has pulled a couple of European supercomputer wins out of the bag, one using Intel chips for Imperial College London and an AMD-based system for the European Institute of Oncology.
