At the APRICOT 2025 conference, Chris Street, a key figure at ST Telemedia, highlighted the control two main suppliers have over the market for dielectric liquids used in immersion cooling systems. This technology is vital for managing the heat produced by energy-intensive datacenter equipment. While the market is expected to mature, leading to reduced prices, the immediate concerns regarding supplier concentration could hinder operational planning for datacenter operators. Additionally, warranty complications arise when hardware is submerged in dielectrics, further complicating adoption of immersion cooling technologies.
That's the opinion of Chris Street, group chief revenue officer at Singapore-based datacenter investment company ST Telemedia. He explained that two companies dominate the market for dielectric liquid.
The liquids are in demand because accelerators consume plenty of energy and output lots of heat. Immersion cooling is passive - it cools without requiring energy inputs.
He expects the market will mature - as markets do - and prices will eventually fall. But for now, he rates dielectric liquid market concentration as an issue.”},{
