The GSMA report highlights that while over half of the global population has mobile internet access, a significant digital divide persists particularly among the poor and less educated.
The report stresses that renewal efforts are essential to bridge the digital divide, as those without access are increasingly at risk of being excluded from critical online services.
Despite an increase of 160 million users in 2023, the overall growth in mobile internet access has slowed significantly since the previous years of rapid expansion.
According to the report, 90% of the 3.45 billion people still offline reside in areas that are technically covered by a mobile network, indicating systemic barriers to access.
