Google is taking significant steps in India to combat online fraud, focusing on blocking the sideloading of apps that could pose security risks.
With its new pilot, Google aims to automatically block sideloading through various channels if the requested app permissions are deemed sensitive.
The enhanced fraud protection will not ban all sideloading but will restrict apps that could potentially lead to fraud and data theft.
Following the successful implementation in Singapore, where 900,000 high-risk installations were prevented, Google is expanding its approach to include India.
