Musk described the lack of interest as "crazy" and said legacy automakers only make tepid, impractical inquiries. Tesla positions FSD as a capability that handles most driving tasks but still requires human supervision. Licensing FSD has been proposed as a revenue stream for Tesla and a way to spread autonomous capability. Musk previously noted talks with at least one major automaker and claimed significant interest at times. FSD and Autopilot have faced regulatory probes over incidents such as running red lights.
