Court hears former ASML staffer sold chip secrets to Moscow
Briefly

A Russian national, a former employee of ASML and NXP, is accused of industrial espionage in a Dutch court, allegedly sharing sensitive chip-making secrets. The accused supposedly made multiple trips to Russia to communicate with intelligence contacts and used tools like Google Drive for information transfer. He admitted to possessing ASML documents but claimed they were for personal knowledge enhancement. His attorney plans to challenge the situation regarding employee access to trade secrets. Arrested in August 2024, he has been linked to the Russian Innovative Engineering Center and has a history of working in the semiconductor industry.
During the trial in Rotterdam, the accused's attorney reportedly indicated he wants to call ASML execs to the stand to testify to the court whether or how employees, presumably ones like the defendant, can get their hands on internal advanced chip-making secrets.
The accused has apparently admitted he had ASML documents in his possession, but said he only took them home to advance his own knowledge.
