Beaming the Internet
Briefly

Taara, part of Alphabet's moonshot factory X, aims to connect 2.6 billion unconnected people worldwide by using beams of light to transmit data.
The technology can reach distances over 20 kilometers and offers impressive speeds of up to 20 gigabits per second, acting as an alternative to fiber optics.
Installed in 13 countries, including India and Kenya, Taara has successfully brought 20,000 new users and 320 businesses online in Ghana.
Mahesh Krishnaswamy, the general manager, describes Taara’s tech as ‘like fiber, but without having to run any fiber—it’s just over the air.’
